Professional flutist and instructor Katrina King, an Arizona native, holds a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Grand Canyon University. A former student of Joe Corral and Anne Diener-Zentner, Katrina has spent her career performing and teaching private flute lessons.
As a performer, Katrina has played with many local distinguished orchestras. She started on piccolo with the Scottsdale Symphony, and over the years has played with the Phoenix Pro Musica Orchestra, Phoenix College Community Orchestra, Chandler Symphony Orchestra (principal flute), and Symphony of the Southwest, with whom she continues to perform regularly as principal flute. Katrina is also the principal sub for the Arizona Opera.
Some of her most memorable performance highlights include being selected for the National Flute Association’s (NFA) professional flute choir at the organization’s Annual Convention in New York City; playing with a small orchestra live on television for America’s Got Talent; and being selected in 2023 as the flutist for the world premier of a new flute-clarinet duet, which she performed at both the International Clarinet Convention in Denver, Colo., and the NFA’s Annual Convention in Phoenix.
In addition to performing in major venues, Katrina greatly enjoys playing recitals with small flute groups, or with guitar, harp, or piano. She also plays in churches as a freelance musician, where she plays everything from classical solo pieces to flute improvisations in support of praise bands. She has played for many years with the Paradise Valley Summer Flute Choir, honing her skills on alto flute and piccolo in addition to C flute.
When she isn’t performing, Katrina loves helping students of all ages develop their flute playing skills. Her school-age students have won numerous awards and accolades, including acceptance to Regional and All-State bands and orchestras, and top placements in Arizona Flute Society competitions. For students beyond school years, Katrina is passionate about helping them grow their skills so they can play in community bands, flute choirs, worship services or whatever their goals may be.
She is thrilled to join the DHCSM faculty and looks forward to working with flute players of all ages and ability levels in the local area.
