Masterclasses for Regionals Auditions

Masterclasses for Young Musicians Aspiring to Regional Band / Orchestra

Each year, the Desert Hills Community School of Music partners with the Scottsdale Philharmonic to offer audition preparation masterclasses for young musicians planning to audition for Regionals and/or All-State Band or Orchestra.

During the two-part workshops, distinguished DHCSM faculty, along with top musicians from the Scottsdale Philharmonic, work with band and string players to help them perfect their etudes and scales, learn valuable audition skills (to include mock audition practice), and improve overall musicianship. Classes are available for all string and band instruments. Students who sign up will work in small groups consisting only of their instrument and led by an expert on that instrument.

The masterclasses are held on the two weekends before Regional auditions. The next preparatory masterclasses will be held on Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, 2025. Each class is 90 minutes, for a total of 180 minutes of instruction.

These preparatory workshops produce a high rate of audition success, with many parents stating that the masterclasses made all the difference in their child making it to Regionals.
