DESERT HILLS COMMUNITY SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Group lessons are a great way for adults to begin or continue learning an instrument. Group instruction creates a sense of community, accountability and mutual support through the learning process. And at only $25/class, group lessons make music-learning more affordable than private, one-on-one instruction. We offer group piano, guitar, and mandolin* as well as other instruments by expressed interest.
*Group classes must have at least four students registered to take place
Always dreamed of playing the piano? Or maybe it has been decades since you touched the keys and you want to take up playing again? Adult Group Piano is a great place to start or continue your piano-playing journey.

Over the course of eight weeks, our Group Guitar class helps beginner guitar players aged 17 through adults develop proficiency on the instrument using the Hal Leonard guitar method.
Students will learn guitar chords in common song keys, basic music theory (meter, rhythm, beat, chord structure, music notation), how to play single-line melodies, how to use the pick (strumming, alternate picking, pattern picking and more), chord changes and how to play them in time with a song, how to use the guitar to accompany a vocalist, how to play with another guitarist and much more.
By the end of the class, students will be able to accompany many basic songs and be able to read and play the melody lines of many tunes straight from standard notation. Depending on their progress, students may also be able to accompany some Christmas carols. The class will be taught by Larry Pickens.
Classes are held in 8- or 9-week sessions, depending on the time of year.
