Susan Constance holds a Bachelor of Arts in music from McKendree University, Illinois, with
pipe organ as her primary instrument. During college, she was invited to play the organ at St.
John the Divine Cathedral in New York City for composer Alec Wynton. Based on her
performance, Mr. Wynton invited Susan to study with him after her college graduation.
Susan earned her teaching certification in Elementary Education (grades K-9) and went on to
teach Kindergarten and general elementary music in several school districts in Illinois. She has
taught private piano and organ lessons for more than 30 years. That combination of early
childhood education and music instruction gave Susan a passion for working with very young
musicians.
Throughout all of her adult life, Susan has played in churches and theaters as an organist,
accompanist for choirs, and pit orchestra pianist. In addition to teaching some of DHCSM’s
youngest piano students, Susan is currently serving as an interim organist at Desert Hills
Presbyterian Church.
